Study in the margins

Teza is a reader built for studying. Open a PDF or an ebook and work on it like paper — with highlighters, ink, sticky notes, video notes, AI answers, quizzes, flashcards and a focus timer. Things paper can't do.

Annotating a Cell Biology study guide PDF in Teza, with a handwritten-style sticky note over highlighted passages

Highlight & write

Mark it up like paper

A highlighter in four colours — plus any custom colour you like. A pen with pressure support and an eraser. Sticky notes, typed or handwritten, that collapse to small tags when you want the page back. Undo, redo, and an explicit save with crash recovery.

  • Reads almost anything: PDF, EPUB, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, Word (DOCX), Markdown and plain text.
  • Triple-tap to read full screen.
  • Seven colour themes, day and night, with a start page set to a gradient, a colour or your own photo.

Every cell is enclosed by a plasma membrane, a thin barrier about 7 to 10 nanometres thick that separates the inside of the cell from its surroundings. The membrane is built from a phospholipid bilayer: two layers of molecules whose water-loving heads face outward.

Proteins are scattered through the bilayer. They form the channels and pumps that let the cell control what crosses — the fluid mosaic model.

Exam Q: explain why O2 crosses freely but Na+ needs a channel protein.

Video notes

YouTube in the margin

Attach a YouTube video to a word or a passage, starting at exactly the right moment. The lecture, the worked example, the pronunciation — tap the note and it plays right there, in place.

  • Pinned to the passage, not lost in a bookmarks folder.
  • Starts at the right second, every time.
  • Plays inside the page — no app-switching.

Ask AI · Quiz me

A study partner on the page

Ask Google Gemini (free tier), Claude or Kimi about the page you're reading, with your own key. You see exactly what is sent before anything leaves the device. Or say “quiz me”: 1–15 multiple-choice questions on that page, with a score.

  • You choose what is shared. Nothing leaves the device until you tap Send.
  • Your keys, your provider. Keys live in the device's secure keystore.
  • Quizzes written from the page you're actually reading.

What does it mean that the cell membrane is selectively permeable?

A Only some substances can cross it freely ✓
B Nothing can cross it
C Everything crosses it at the same rate

Cards that come back just in time

AI drafts flashcards from a page or a passage — or write your own. Grade each one Again, Hard, Good or Easy, and spaced repetition (FSRS) brings it back just before you'd forget it.

What heads face outward in a phospholipid bilayer?

Focus timer

Stay with the text

A Pomodoro timer with short and long breaks that keeps running while you move around the app. Read for twenty-five, breathe for five, come back to the same sentence.
